The Reverend Whiskey
The Call Family Distillers' whiskey-making heritage dates back to the 1800s in Lincoln County, Tennessee. Where Daniel Houston Call, a Lutheran minister, produced fine whiskey and with the help of Nearest Green mentored orphan Jasper "Jack" Daniel. The Reverend Sour Mash Whiskey combines classic American techniques for a distinct spirit. Using a "sour mash" process, it produces a fruity and robust flavor. Aged 4-6 years in new charred oak and first-fill bourbon casks, it achieves complexity without being over-oaked. The whiskey is carefully blended and filtered through the Lincoln County Process with maple charcoal for smoothness. With a mashbill of 76% corn, 19% rye, and 5% malted barley, it is bottled at 45% ABV (90 proof). Aromas of ripe red apples, cinnamon rolls, raisin cake, and fresh ginger lead to flavors of roasted pecans, tart cherries, and charred orange peel, with a clean finish offering notes of brown sugar-glazed peaches, cured tobacco leaves, toffee, rye spice, and toasted American oak.
